Officially now called "Murphy's Law Day"

I had today perfectly planned - leisurely brekkie, tutor from 9 til 12, pick up supplies at the supermarket, wander round the waterfront for a few hours, cook and eat a prawn curry, finish watching My Fair Lady.  Then I got up.  Shortly before 7 - all the time in the world for a leisurely breakfast on the deck, watching the sun come up.  Which it didn't.  No sweat - plenty of time before the tutoring session which I fired up at 8:45.  Despite my having only one tutoring group in my laptop, it gave me a choice of half a dozen, all with more or less identical names.  So grab one at random and make a note of its password.  Then email the password to the kids I'm tutoring.  And wait.  Makes a change to be ready before they are. 9:15 - no sign of them but a message from their Mom - "Tutoring today?"  "Er, yup."  "Bugger - can we start at 10?" "No problem - I'll take a walk."

So we started at 10, accompanied by big brother's sitar lesson.  Not ideal background music so we relocated.  And then things went fine until we finished at 1:15.

Quick clean of a shelf in the fridge to catch up a bit on time.  And it's off to the supermarket for a quick restock / purchase of extra supplies.  Including shrimp.  Which I asked for not with Old Bay Seasoning on: I'm really not a fan of it.  Pottered round the store grabbing this and that and returned for my shrimp to discover brown stains oozing from the box.  Bloody Old Bay - it would not go well in the shrimp jalfrezi I had in mind for dinner.  No sign of the shrimp guy so I unwrapped them, just to make sure, and plonked the box on the counter and walked away.  He appeared and asked what was wrong and, upon finding out, and probably cursing me for distinctly hearing me ask for Old Bay, he grudgingly agreed to steam another batch.  Which would take 15 minutes.

But then I discovered a lack of wallet which, in my case, I do not have.  It's ten minutes round trip to the apartment so I hopped in the car, avoiding the news on the radio, and arrived at the apartment at exactly the same time as the TV guy.  Twas but a moment's work for him to replace the slightly flaky DVD remote with one that doesn't work at all .

So back to the supermarket to pick up and pay for the groceries, helped by the nicest checkout operator ever.  Who charged me for the more expensive tomatoes but I'll survive.

To the waterfront - hadn't bothered with the camera as I didn't plan to take any pictures, it being a mucky day.  But I had my phone so took a few crummy photos of what would have been marvelous if I'd had a proper camera.

Right.  The day was now going nicely.  I chatted with numerous people on the waterfront, took their photos with their bloody useless phones and generally felt good about stuff.

Back home for diner, the prep of which was but a moment's work (I've cooked a few curries).  Time to finish My Fair Lady on the new improved replacement DVD player.  Whose remote doesn't talk to it.  I did find the Play button on the player but no fast forward - I really didn't want to watch the first half again.  So I put in Ender's Game which I haven't seen for years.  16 minutes of trailers and then the movie which required me to press "Play" on a remote I don't have.  Didn't want to watch it anyway.

Think I'll sit on the deck with a beer and watch the tide come in.

(I would have posted some photos but there is no obvious way to transfer photos from a phone to a laptop.  Had a nice chat with the Indian lady at T-Mobile.  Will use a real camera in future).
